Early Years Foundation Stage / EYFS
Welcome to Stone CE Combined school!
For those of you a little unfamiliar with Early Years and how it looks in a school setting, here is a very brief summary:
There are seven areas of learning and development that must shape educational programmes in early years settings. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.
These three areas, the prime areas, are:
- communication and language;
- physical development; and
- personal, social and emotional development.
We must also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are:
- understanding the world; and
- expressive arts and design.
As from September all children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 will be using the Read Write Inc programme, as part of their daily Literacy lessons. Read, Write Inc is designed to create fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers. Children will bring home storybooks matched to the sounds they know so they develop accuracy, speed and confidence.
We know that children who read a lot at home do well at school. The more children read, the more they know and the easier it is for them to learn. Please use the following weblink www.ruthmiskin.com/en/parents which includes helpful parental guidance on how to:
- Share great storytimes
- Understand Phonics
- Practise Pure Sounds
- Support reading a home
- Begin handwriting
It is vital that you use only the pure sounds that your child will be learning, when reading at home. So if you are at all unsure, please do check on the Ruth Miskin webpage.
